Week 9
Step 23

Wow, I made it!
It is amazing what technology is out their, just at your finger tips. Youtube, flickr, mashups, newreader accounts, wkiks, sandbox, net library only to mention some.
It was well worth taking the time to have a look at what is happpening out there, the rate of change is amazing.
I see that netlibrary has a huge potentional for lots of reasons, as long as you have the internet you can access so much. People with disabilities, problems with distance, languages, sight and time issues can access titles and download them to their computers, ipods and mp3 player and listen to their books, radio sessions or extract from magazines.
I must acknowledge the wonderful assistance, encouragement and patiences that both Denise and Lynette have shown, it has been greatly appreciated.

Net Library

Week 9
Step 22

Have checked net library collection of titles, had a listen to "Clever Gretel" by Brothers Grimm and "The little Match girl" by Hans Christian Anderson.
The quality of the recordings is excellent. The potential for visual impaired people to ultalize this fomat is huge. Once the collection is increased to cater for all taste I can see that Net libtrary will be very successful. Individuals will be able to make a selection of titles and down load them to their mp3 player an have hours of listening please at their finger tips.

Web 2.0

Week 6
Step 15

With the way technology and the information resources are going, may we can down size our libraries now that the books have all left?
Articles as "just in case" make the future very interesting.

The “just in case” collection Crazy as this may sound, the time has come for us to look skeptically at the very idea of a library “collection.” Building a comprehensive collection of materials that anticipates the user’s every need (without providing wastefully where no need exists) has always been problematic, but it was an approach that made sense when information was available only in print formats, and was therefore difficult, expensive and slow to distribute. But it no longer makes sense to collect information products as if they were hard to get. They aren’t. In fact, it may no longer make sense to “collect” in the traditional sense at all. In my library, we’ve seen a 55 percent drop in circulation rates over the past twelve years, making it harder and harder to justify the continued buildup of a large “just in case” print collection. As a Web 2.0 reality continues to emerge and develop, our patrons will expect access to everything – digital collections of journals, books, blogs, podcasts, etc. You think they can’t have everything? Think again. This may be our great opportunity

[…] “You are going to do a lot of exploration and reading on the net. You need a way to reference pages and sites. The “web 2.0 way” to do this is with “social tagging”, so open yourself an account on - and start tagging pages as recommended in The Several Habits of Wildly Successful Users. By way of example, you can see how my account has grown to over 1,000 resources in about seven months only, and even when I hit 10,000 resources; I am confident I will be able to retrieve any page I want simply by combining my own keywords. For example, the list of my resources tagged both with “Web2.0″ and “Trends” can be accessed witha URL formatted like this: (”Fidelis1970″ is the name of my account on Similarly, I know I can retrieve my own list of sites using drupal with the following URL:” […]
